The Friday Fling Writes Memorial Day Septolets!
2012-05-24 at 08:00 pm
Friday Fling #182 May 25th 2012
Memorial Day is Monday, so this week we are remembering America’s defenders!
Due to the preference for using few words to express deep sentiments, short forms lend themselves well to this topic. We thought this would be a good time to apply the Septolet.
According to ShadowPoetry.com, the Septolet, as the name suggests, is a poem consisting of seven lines containing fourteen words with a break in between the two parts. Both parts deal with the same thought and create a picture.
Soldiers
fought to defend
American liberty,
Sacrificed
to preserve
the freedom
we have today.
This week the Friday Fling remembers the fallen with Memorial Day Septolets!
Be sure to read and comment on your fellow Pals’ productions. Then go enjoy the weekend freedom which America’s defenders have helped preserve for your use!
Fickle Finger of Fate Award for May 18th
Congratulations Lori!

Welcome everyone to the Memorial Day Weekend edition of the Friday Fling! This week we are still partying poetically hearty, but a bit more serious in consideration of the purpose of the upcoming Monday holiday. The Septolet is the recommended format, but not required for your post!
My cohost Michelle K. notes that there is another version of the Septolet than that described above. It’s still seven short lines, but it goes by syllable rather than word count, mainly 1-2-3-4-3-2-1. Either is fine, or just wing it your own way. The important thing is to be creative in your expression about the sacrifices of our men in uniform!

I want to thank all your friends and family that served our country, Flossie! I too had family and friends serving our country and 2 from the city I live in lost their lives in Iraq. My uncle was a POW in Viet Nam and my son served in the army for 4 years and now serving in the U.S. Coast guard. They are all hero’s!
