A look back at was used to matter in America.

There was a time when unions were as American as apple pie.  That was before the GOP built a multi-million dollar smear campaign against them.

There was a time when “Made In The USA” meant something.  You won’t hear any politicians talking about such things now.  Nowadays, job loss is blamed on socialism and environmentalism as opposed to the billionaires that are shipping jobs overseas.

Check out this time capsule and reminisce on a time when “job creators” actually created jobs.

Indeed I do. The link is greed. Excess in the haves, and proportionately inverse in the have nots. Should the day arrive in which enough of the have nots have attained a sufficient quantity, and quality of greed to make it the top priority in their lives, as the haves have done (though you’ll never hear that from them- their version would be something to do with God, or good values, or making sure Americans get what’s best for Americans, and nothing else)….. There’ll be interesting times, of the likes (insert favorite saying regarding an extreme in magnitude here).
When that day comes, it might be enough even to get my ass off of the internets, and back out into the real world. Until then, fuck em all. I’m staying here where it’s a bit less malodorous. :)

    Moosehammer..

Things change.. sometimes we do not like it, sometimes we do. Unions have their ups and downs.. but all in all unions are good for competition. I neither support or deny unions. They are what they are. I don’t think they have helperd the fair wage act tho.. as so often praised. The Minimum wage should be $15.00-$18.00 an hour. When is Government going to make that a law? The cost of living continues to increase, but wages continue to decrease? I blame All of Washington for this.
The reason Big Corp. is transferring over seas is due to the Onslaught of Regulations. In other Countries, they are more lenient on taxes and regulations. This is again American Governments Fault. And N.A.F.T.A. didn’t help matters with Corps. going overseas either.. passed by President William Jefferson Clinton, a Democrat.
Neither Party is innocent. It really isn’t the parties, it is the people who were voted in under those Party Headings.. Democrat & Republican..

I agree that our minimum wage should be significantly raised and that NAFTA helped move us into the position we find ourselves in today. However, if Washington were to set a higher minimum wage or rescind NAFTA, wouldn’t that fall into the category of the overbearing federal regulations that are so awful to the business community?

As far as that “onslaught of regulations”, I have yet to find anyone that can state exactly which regulations are so debilitating that the businesses have to run in order to survive. Maybe you can shed some specifics on something that I believe is nothing more than another overstated political attack point.

    Primary Reasons

First, overseas locations receive preference because of the low wages paid for labor there. Second, U.S. companies have no employee benefits to pay for operations in those countries. Third, they are exempt from environmental and safety regulations. Additionally, these firms have no obligation to remit foreign taxes upon exporting their products to the US.

Simply call off the dogs in the EPA and the hundreds of other entities that can only be described as anti-business. 4,200 rules, 845 of which affect small business. More than 100 are major rules with an economic impact of more than $100 million each. I highly doubt that anyone is going to list all the Regulations that effect business in the U.S.

Right now, someone is sitting at a large oak table in the EPA’s marble palace in Washington, D.C., sipping a vanilla latte and dreaming up a new rule to impose. Without fail, the EPA continues to come up with ideas that leave you scratching your head in wonderment because of the questionable science used to justify these regulations.

My suggestion would be to research The Regulations imposed upon Business in the United States.
Many of these regulations—such as regulating dust on farms—just make no sense. It is understandable, but not defend-able, how someone who does not set foot out of his marble palace might think that dust on farms should be regulated. Impossible to do by the way when plowing or cultivating a field. This just shows how disconnected some people in Washington really are, coming up with rules based on no science or knowledge.

The EPA announced that they have finalized additional Clean Air Act provisions in July 2011, collectively known as “The Cross-State Air Pollution Rule” to ostensibly “reduce air pollution and attain clean air standards,” by requiring coal companies in 27 states to slash emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide by 73 percent and 54 percent, respectively, from 2005 levels by 2014.

These rules apply to the Steel industry as well. I have given you just two examples out of 4200. Have fun researching the rest. A lot of work and time to invest but well worth the laughs of the galactic stupid who sit in Washington making up all the nonsense regulations.

See you list low wages and no benefits to the workers so that minimum wage increase you wish Washington would get on would just send the businesses on their merry way that much more. Then you drag up the EPA regulations which is usually standard answer number 2. I happen to appreciate the EPA since I really don’t want to see that crying Indian commercial all the time again nor live in the environment that upset him in the first place.

I can research regulations all day long, but I still appreciate you trying with the Dust Control regulations which I know of well since I live in the desert and we have our own local regulations on disturbing the desert crust.

Regulations are just rules. I have to live with rules, so I think big business should also. Besides regulations create more jobs and more businesses that have to assist other business with compliance. I will agree that some should be modified, but without business regulations we will be living in Potterville.

I’m sorry you feel you wasted your time because you inspired me, as soon as I had ample time, to do some research. I spent a good portion of my morning searching out the dust regulations you mentioned and couldn’t find a thing in the EPA regulations regarding farmers and dust or particulate matter. Maybe I missed something or there are State specific laws regarding dust control that apply to farmers that I didn’t research deep enough to find, but I’m not going to spend my week looking for them State-by-State. It was interesting, however, that I did find these articles from last October specifically dealing with the dust control issue and farmers.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/house-panel-to-vote-on-phantom-epa-dust-rule/2011/10/26/gIQAFNJ0MM_story.html

    http://news.yahoo.com/epa-tries-put-rest-myth-farm-dust-rules-154923029.html

    http://deltafarmpress.com/government/epa-reiterates-no-dust-regulations-planned

    http://southeastfarmpress.com/asa-appreciates-epa-offer-clarify-dust-issue

From those articles, and many others I found, it seems that the GOP is creating another nightmare that just doesn’t exist. It could be that these reports are just the media protecting the Government again so I have to ask. Do you consider these reputable sources or should the Delta Farm Press and the Southeast Farm Press be considered part of the elite liberal media?

  5. Our incomes continue to move toward equalization with the rest of the world. So is it more economic principle, rather than political, that better paying manufacturing jobs have migrated to other countries?

Though often not acknowledged, good-for-business-and-jobs largely equals anti-environment. One of the great challenges of our time is to equalize our lifestyle with very serious environmental concerns, and there is very very little time left to do so. Jobs/business/lifestyle is short-sightedly winning out over environment.

    Double-edged sword.

It is painful to see how extremely common unnecessary ignorance is.

Flip side: those intellects who produced great ideas before me have helped me both discover and accept them, and then use them to form my own great ideas.

And great ideas give humanity the opportunity to learn and improve.

In the eyes of the beholder…. On the internets, I have a strong hunch that pretty much anyone that has seen what both of us represent ourselves with (ie: what we post), is not going to have to think too hard to overturn this balderdash: “I’m not as pretty as you either…. ”
On the iQ thing I woulda thought higher (I’ve scored a similar number before)… but that’s probably due to your unusual writing skill. I sometimes wonder if it’s possible for the ability to paint a superb literary picture and a high IQ to be independant of one another, or inproportionate (or whatever the hell I’m trying to say). My guess would be ‘no’… I believe the two are closely interrelated.
Something else while I’m bumping my gums… I’ve encountered quite a few folks that I would not hesitate to think of as ‘smarter’ than I am. But the majority of those, particularly the ones that I got to know to any degree, seemed to be noticeably less endowed in other areas like common sense or real world experience.
If I could do it all over again, I’d of wished I could write like Victor Hugo… like people in hell wish they could get a glass of ice water. 8)

    Your Federal Government Tax Rebate:

The federal government is sending each and everyone of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China . If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer it will go to India . If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras , and Guatemala . If we purchase a car it will go to Japan . If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan …and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes, weed, beer, and tattoos, since these are the only products still produced in the USA .

Thank you for your help & please support the US.

    And from Maddow…………….

The Tea-Republicans now have unlimited public election spending and want to kill the main source for Democrats. That’s the bottom line! Its hard not to think that some these tea party Republicans weren’t dropped on their heads…seriously…some of them are obviously convinced that cutting people’s pay and taking away their collective bargaining rights is somehow GOOD for them. We know what’s next, their jobs shipped over seas!

Wouldn’t it be awesome the backlash turns out to be a full blown movement right back at the Koch brothers…oh what thats happening….THE OWS, 99%! I believe these extreme conservatives that openly despise the middle class are awakening the sleeping giant…MAAWWAAHHAHHHAAA.

The only question left here is will people wake up, organize, and dissent, in numbers big enough to stop the corporations from taking over entirely. These are the new fascists and the GOP are their spawn! They’ve learned from their mistakes, and they are doing far better at taking over than the mid twentieth century fascists.
