ON THE BRINK OF AUTUMN DAYS
Red-tailed hawk
of summer’s end
circling the sun
as autumn begins,
days growing short,
lengthening shadows
of late afternoon as,
leaving summer behind,
I look forward to apples
and pumpkins
and leaves
of crimson
and gold
and orange
and to the cooler days
that come with the Fall.
