JUST TEMPORARY (with photo) a Thunderstormy Friday Fling Ghazal

My very first attempt at a poetic form known as a Ghazal

which was the featured format at this past Friday’s CPC Friday Fling . . . .

The format is included down at the bottom of the page.

JUST TEMPORARY

Thunderstorms blaze a trail across a summer sky
as children try not to be afraid or cry.

Noses pressed against window panes in awe,
totally amazed at the sight and wondering how and why.

They know the storms will probably soon pass
and they will again play and the birds will fly.

It’s only a temporary summertime shower,
and soon the day will again be dry.

The thunderstorms will end soon
and Barbara will bake a strawberry pie.

Chases Thunderstorms With Ghazals.”

The Ghazal format according to ShadowPoetry.com via Scotorum . . . .

A Ghazal is a poem that is made up like an odd numbered chain of couplets,
where each couplet is an independent poem.

It should be natural to put a comma at the end of the first line.

The Ghazal has a refrain of one to three words that repeat,
and an inline rhyme that precedes the refrain.

Lines 1 and 2, then every second line, has this refrain and inline rhyme,
and the last couplet should refer to the authors pen-name.

The rhyming scheme is AA bA cA dA eA etc.

from whatever storms come your way.

The forms are definitely outside my comfort zone, but I do love trying them. Can’t do them well, but a fun challenge for me. Glad to share this one which is most certainly new to me. Thanks so much, Jean! God Bless You too. And stay safe in those storms back there.

Awwwww . . . . Thanks so much, Cherie! Yes, for sure. It’s like mental gymnastics for me. And I’m never really sure I got it right. Needless to say, I’m NEVER really happy with my results either. But in the end, they’re fun and I must say that at least for this English major who didn’t major in creative writing, it’s all good and a continuing learning experience for me. I must thank MySpace and CPC for opening up a whole new world for me coincidental with retiring from the classroom. I would never have written a single thing resembling a poem had I not stumbled upon all of this.

:) ) !! Just the name of the form almost scared me off. I always have to make a template and they’re always like mental gymnastics to me. Thanks so much, Sandi! Such fun trying some of these forms. I’m still chuckling over this one. Glad to share a smile.
